East Van Wisdom School

Practices for staying human in complex times.

In a time of speed, distraction, and uncertainty, many of us feel a quiet longing for spaces where we can slow down, listen more deeply, and explore what it means to live wisely.

We are surrounded by more information than ever before, yet there are fewer places where reflection, creativity, and meaningful conversation can unfold.

The East Van Wisdom School was created in response to this need.

Hosted at Green Room Yoga in East Vancouver, the Wisdom School brings together artists, facilitators, contemplative practitioners, and community members to explore practices that help us live with greater awareness, creativity, and care in a rapidly changing world.

Wisdom is not something we acquire through information. It develops through lived experience, reflection, and relationship with others.

The East Van Wisdom School exists to create spaces where these capacities can be cultivated together.

The East Van Wisdom School Approach

The Wisdom School explores three interconnected streams of practice that support the cultivation of wisdom in everyday life.

Creative Practice

Creativity allows us to access imagination, emotional insight, and new ways of seeing. Through writing, poetry, art, and movement, we learn to listen more closely to our inner experience and to the world around us.

Creative expression helps us move beyond habitual thinking and opens space for fresh perception, meaning-making, and shared humanity.

Embodied Awareness

Wisdom is not only intellectual — it is lived and felt in the body.

Practices such as yoga, somatic awareness, and mindful movement help us develop presence, resilience, and the capacity to respond thoughtfully rather than react automatically.

These practices reconnect us with the intelligence of the body and support emotional regulation and self-awareness in daily life.

Relational Inquiry

Much of what we learn about ourselves emerges through relationships.

Relational inquiry invites us to explore communication, listening, and dialogue as practices that deepen understanding and connection. In thoughtful group spaces, we encounter different perspectives and learn to navigate complexity with greater empathy and humility.

How the Wisdom School Works

East Van Wisdom School offerings typically take the form of small-group programs that unfold over several weeks, allowing ideas and relationships to deepen over time.

Through creative exploration, embodied practices, and reflective conversation, participants are invited to engage with new ideas while integrating insights through lived experience.

These gatherings are guided by artists, practitioners, and facilitators who live and work within the same community. Rather than distant experts, they are neighbours who bring their experience into a shared local learning environment.

The structure of a small group allows us to learn in ways that are difficult to achieve alone — through dialogue, reflection, and the mutual support that emerges when people gather with curiosity and care.

Some Practices We Will Explore:

  • Contemplative Practice – fostering introspection and presence through silence and reflection.
  • Poly-vagal therapies – humming, breathing and self massage to regulate the nervous system and foster safety, connection, and resilience.
  • Stress and Gut-Brain Axis – understanding the link between gut health and mental well-being.
  • Yoga and Zen Philosophy – reorienting ourselves to the ancient teachings that remain profoundly relevant today.
  • Breathwork – breathing beyond survival. Breathing as a means to heal, restore, energize and expand awareness.
  • Meditation – training the mind and body to live in the present moment. Access deeper awareness and calm.
  • Brain Science – understanding how our minds shape our experiences and how we can reshape our neural pathways.
  • Creative Arts Practices – exploring arts as a path to deeper understanding and transformation.
  • Sound Healing – using vibrational frequencies to promote healing and balance.

Each of these practices invites us to tap into our own wisdom while also drawing from the collective intelligence of the group. We create a space where everyone’s voice matters and where learning is not about accumulating facts, but about experiencing and integrating life's lessons more fully.

This is not just another class. This is an invitation to be part of something greater—a movement toward a wiser, more connected way of being. If you feel the call to deepen your understanding, to engage in meaningful practices, and to be in community with others who share this vision, we invite you to join us.

Come, take a seat in the circle. Let’s cultivate some grassroots wisdom – together.

Join us at East Van Wisdom School and hear about how you can participate in upcoming programs.
